Path to Orthopaedics

From an early age, Dharsh was drawn to understanding how things worked. As a child, she took apart a broken PC and carefully reassembled it, discovering the satisfaction that comes from restoring something to full function. That same determination and hands-on focus now shape her approach as a surgeon. Her commitment to helping people regain mobility and independence led her to pursue medicine and ultimately specialise in shoulder and elbow orthopaedic surgery.

Orthopaedic surgery appealed to Dharsh’s practical problem-solving nature and her desire to achieve meaningful outcomes for her patients. The shoulder and elbow joints captured her interest for their intricate anatomy and for the essential roles they play in daily life. These joints are important for simple gestures and significant moments alike, from brushing one’s hair to carrying a child, from returning to the gym after an injury to performing alongside teammates in high-stakes competition.

The Management of Athletes

Dharsh has extensive experience managing athletes and active individuals, and understands the physical and psychological demands of injury through her own involvement in weightlifting. This perspective allows her to better appreciate the challenges of time away from training and the importance of a structured, goal-oriented return to activity.

She works closely with patients to plan treatment around their individual schedules, performance goals and external commitments. Where appropriate, Dharsh liaises with other members of the patient’s medical and allied health team to ensure a coordinated approach, supporting safe recovery and a timely return to sport and function.

Beyond Orthopaedics

Outside of orthopaedic practice, Dharsh values time with her family and is married to a fellow surgeon, sharing an understanding of the demands and rewards of a life in medicine. She has a strong appreciation for food and wine, enjoying both the experience of dining and hosting dinner parties.

She trains regularly in her sport of weightlifting, using this as a way to maintain focus, discipline and balance outside of clinical work. The structure and progression of training provide a meaningful counterpoint to the demands of surgical practice.

She also loves baking, drawn to the precision and attention to detail it requires. Dharsh takes particular pleasure in creating cakes and macarons for celebrations with family and friends, finding satisfaction in the process of crafting something technical that can then be shared and enjoyed.
